For its third edition of the Rado Star Prize UK, Rado is seeking the next generation of young designers, inviting them to respond to the theme ‘RE:IMAGINE’. The theme explores different ways design can improve life: by evolving existing product forms through materials, function, technology, end use or even, re-use. Rado is searching for innovative, cutting-edge design pieces that relate to the concept of ‘Re:Imagine. Products will be considered from the fields of interior, product, industrial and technology design.
The Judges’ Winner was Huw Evans, who impressed the judges with the clever design concept of his ‘Concertina Collection’. The collection comprises of both furniture and home décor items fabricated by methodically processing timber. Systematically cutting the timber produces a versatile, semi-fluid material which moves in multiple directions and allows the material to be stretched and manipulated. The winner of the Public Vote was Katy Thomas with "emoshi" which is designed to reduce children’s stress and anxiety when staying in paediatric wards through teaching patients how to express their emotions.
